About this event

Revolutionary Sounds explores the rich cultural exchange between European and African music in colonial New York. Through live performance, storytelling, and hands-on demonstrations, students are introduced to historical instruments like the mountain dulcimer, djembe, banjo, and shekere. The program also highlights the significance of Pinkster, one of the earliest African Am erican holidays, and how music served as a vital thread connecting communities across cultures. With engaging songs, body percussion, and interactive call-and-response segments, Revolutionary Sounds brings history to life while illuminating the roots of Am erican music traditions like jazz and rock and roll. #RW250 Check the library page for registration, tickets, and any schedule updates.
